Rectal prolapse and pelvic floor procedures
Rectal prolapse procedures are broadly speaking divided into abdominal procedures and perineal procedures. With abdominal procedures, these are usually performed using keyhole or robotically. Open procedures may be necessary but is less common with the advent of minimally invasive techniques.
Pelvic floor procedures can vary depending on the symptom experienced by the patient, the diagnosis and patient preferences. These include sacral neuromodulation for patients with incontinence, sphincter repair for patients with sphincter injuries, Delorme’s procedure for rectocoeles and rectopexy. Your specialist will be able to recommend if surgery is needed and what surgery is recommended.
